Giants boss urges town of Huddersfield to get behind club as they look to 'build a legacy'

Ian Watson has called on the people of Huddersfield to get behind his side as they look to establish themselves as one of the top sides in Super League.

Over the close season, the Giants have brought in a wealth of top-level, international and NRL experience in the shape of halfbacks Theo Fages and Tui Lolohea, prop forward Chris Hill and hooker Danny Levi.

With the backing of owner Ken Davy and managing director Richard Thewlis, Watson's recruitment drive has supplemented the crop of exciting youngsters already at the John Smith's Stadium, which includes the likes of academy graduates Will Pryce and Jake Wardle.

"We want to build a legacy," explained Watson. "We've got a lot of good young players and we need to develop them, but you need the experienced players in and around them to make it a better and stronger club.

"When good, British players become available at the top end of the quality scale, that's who we want to get in and we want them to buy into what we're trying to do.

"Theo, Tui, Chris Hill and Danny - we told them we want to build and make this a top-four club. When the players talk about targeting the play-offs, that's where we want to be.

"There are levels of player and when you go after them, you don't know if you're going to get them all.

"The big thing for me is that the players we bring in have got to try and push other players down, so you get that real competition.

"Richard and Ken have backed us to be able to do that, to bring those guys in and over the years, we can make Huddersfield a really, really strong team."

With the squad established and in the coach's eyes' ready to kick on and be a major threat in every competition this year, Watson hopes the people of Huddersfield and beyond will be out
