Crystal Palace in talks for Liverpool and Man United friendlies in Asia and Australia

Crystal Palace are set to jet across the world this summer to play both Liverpool and Manchester United in showcase pre-season friendlies.

According to The Athletic, the Eagles are in talks to face Jurgen Klopp’s Reds in Singapore on July 15 before they will head over to Australia to face United shortly after.

Contracts for the game against Liverpool are yet to be finalised, though an announcement could be made as early as March.

The two matches will provide Palace with an opportunity to raise their international profile in new markets and build their growing reputation that only expanded since the appointment of Patrick Vieira in 2021.

The World Cup-winning midfielder is an internationally recognised figure within the game thanks to his trophy-laden career as a player and has taken to Premier League management well with the Eagles so far this season.

Palace have not left Europe for a pre-season friendly since their participation in the 2017 Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.

Under the eye of the newly-appointed Frank de Boer, the Eagles finished third in a four-way tournament with Liverpool, Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion.

Roy Hodgson’s preferred pre-season destinations during his time as Palace boss included trips to Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.

Restrictions on international travel during the Covid-19 pandemic has stopped the club jetting off anywhere in recent seasons. Patrick Vieira’s first pre-season as manager last summer saw the Eagles remain in the UK for the second year in a row.

They faced Walsall, Stevenage, Ipswich Town and Reading away from home and played Charlton Athletic and Watford at Selhurst Park.
