George Hirst makes honest Portsmouth transfer claim ahead of summer window

George Hirst has admitted that he would love to re-join Portsmouth when the transfer window opens in June.

However, the forward has suggested that it will be down to Leicester City to decide what they believe is best in terms of his future.

The forward joined Pompey on a season-long loan deal from the Foxes last year and initially made a relatively start to life at Fratton Park.

Hirst eventually managed to take his game to new heights in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign as he scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 23 appearances.

The 23-year-old’s loan deal is set to officially expire at the end of May and his current contract at Leicester runs until 2023.

Given that the upcoming window representing the final chance that the Foxes will get to secure a reasonable fee for Hirst, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if they end up listening to offers from elsewhere.

Making reference to his current situation, Hirst has revealed that he is open to the possibility of sealing a move back to Portsmouth.

Speaking to The News, Hirst said: “I’m waiting to see what happens, it’s all to be decided.

“For now, I’m jut going to enjoy a bit of a rest, enjoy my holidays.

“I would love to come back to Pompey, whether that’s something that will happen or could happen, I’m not sure.

“Never say never, I’ve enjoyed my time down there so much, which obviously plays a factor when it comes to making decisions like this in the future.

“I need to speak to Leicester, I am their player, and will go from there.

“I need to see if they have made any decisions and I’m sure all this will happen in the not-too-distant future.
