Gary Neville responds to former owner's jibe about Glazers and Manchester United comment

Gary Neville has hit back at Simon Jordan after the former Crystal Palace chairman criticised him for calling out Manchester United’s owners.

Neville hit out at the Glazers on Twitter as they prepare to take £11million out of the club this Friday. Despite being worth an estimated $3.1billion, the American owners have regularly taken large sums out of United.

Former United captain Neville has been vocal in his opposition of the owners, particularly as the club have been in decline over the years. It was announced last month that United’s debts had risen to nearly £500m, while major improvements are needed on and off the pitch.

Neville said on social media: "The Glazer Family should NOT be taking £11m in dividends this Friday. It isn’t right with the investment needed in the team, stadium and training ground.

“The club’s cash position is low compared to previous years. An announcement is needed to halt it for the next 3 years minimum."

Neville’s comments drew criticism from former Palace chairman Jordan. The businessman, now an outspoken radio pundit, accused the former defender of pandering to United fans by criticising the Glazers.

"So he's a balance sheet analyst now is he?" Jordan told talkSPORT. "I think you can point it out if you want to. What are you pointing it out for? You're doing so because you know its currency, you know its juice for you, Mayor of Manchester."

Neville though has brushed off the criticism. Tweeting his response to Jordan’s comments, Neville said: "He really doesn’t know Manchester United’s current financial predicament does he."
