Gary Neville questions Erik ten Hag for not giving Manchester United a style of play

Gary Neville can't recognise a style of play at Manchester United and he has questioned manager Erik ten Hag for not implementing patterns and combinations between players.

Ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first season at Old Trafford, securing Champions League qualification and delivering a trophy, but the team have regressed in the new campaign. United crashed out of European competition before Christmas, they are out of the Carabao Cup and they currently are eight points adrift of the top four places.

There have also been accusations of the team lacking identity and Ten Hag's tactics have been heavily questioned, something which some have put down to the injury crisis.

However, Tottenham were without their best players against United on Sunday and they were the better side, despite drawing 2-2 and the points being shared.

"Injuries are a factor for United in the sense they are getting players back, but I don't think we can mention injuries today because Spurs have played them off the park and they've got five or six players out themselves," Neville told his podcast with Sky Sports.

"Son, Kulusevski, Maddison, Sarr and Bissouma would all play for United and they would usually be in the Spurs starting XI and they haven't played, so we can't mention absentees.

"There were some positives, but a lot, a lot of work to do. One thing for me is the style of play and I'm talking about patterns and combinations that players can rely upon in difficult moments in a match.
