Gary Neville makes Mason Mount admission ahead of Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Gary Neville believes Mason Mount will have to change roles against Tottenham Hotspur after Manchester United's midfield display against Wolves.

Erik ten Hag got a first look at his preferred set-up with Mount and Bruno Fernandes ahead of Casemiro. It was the first time this personnel had been used in a competitive match and there were teething problems.

Wolves had plenty of joy against United, particularly in transition, which has left doubts over whether the balance is right with those three in the centre. Neville raised his concerns and believes Mount may have to change roles against Tottenham, in their next Premier League match.

He predicts the Englishman will replace Alejandro Garnacho off the left, with Casemiro joined by Scott McTominay in the middle for more solidity and protection. Sofyan Amrabat is on United's radar, although any agreement is not imminent.

Analysing the midfield problems in more depth on Monday Night Football, Neville said: "Manchester United's midfield was non-existent. They were empty.

"The front three didn't work hard enough in a defensive sense, and that will be a massive worry for them. Wolves were much they better side, they were fantastic, they got everything except a goal or maybe even two.
