The midfielder has been in the role for just over three months and Neville believes Erik ten Hag won’t be the one to take the armband away from him. However, the former defender said it would benefit the player’s game if the responsibility was taken away from him.

Former United skipper Roy Keane said that he would strip Fernandes of the honour after his demeanour in the closing stages of Sunday’s Manchester derby. The Portugal international received a yellow card after putting in a number of hefty challenges and berating the referee with United 3-0 down.
