Gary Neville disagrees with Manchester United coach over team's performance

Gary Neville has claimed that a member of Manchester United's coaching team was disappointed with the team's performance in Sunday's Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle.

The former Reds defender said he spoke to the unnamed staff member after the final whistle at Wembley, with United having won 2-0 thanks to goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

Erik ten Hag's side - who secured their first trophy since 2017 with the win over the Magpies - were solid in defence and restricted Eddie Howe's men to very few clear-cut chances. Neville, who was on co-commentary for the game, was impressed with how the Reds managed the final, but he says not everyone involved with United was completely satisfied.

Neville stated that one of United's coaches was frustrated with the team's performance. Speaking on The Overlap, he said: "I thought it was probably as good a cup final performance as you could wish to get at Wembley. I spoke to one of the United coaches at the end of the game, they were disappointed with the fact that they didn't play the football that they would expect them to play.

"But I just think 'how many brilliant performances do you ever see at Wembley?' Just generally. I played there a lot of times with England, played there with United.

"The occasion, you don't really see free-flowing football, I think the fact it brings more nerves, both teams are prepared like you wouldn't believe. But to manage a game in that way, to control it in which the way they did, to show the experience that they did, I thought I was an unbelievable performance."
