Manchester United academy graduate makes first MLS start as former team-mates send messages

Former Manchester United academy player Harvey Neville was handed his first MLS start for Inter Miami on Saturday.

Neville - currently managed by his father Phil Neville - started at right back and completed 72 minutes on his full league debut. He was replaced by Victor Ulloa as Miami were beaten 2-0 away at Toronto FC, leaving them seventh in the Eastern Conference with two wins and two defeats from their opening four matches.

Prior to his first start, Neville had made three appearances from the bench for Inter Miami, one of which came earlier this season during the opening day win over Montreal. He also featured on the final day of last term against the same opposition, as well as in the US Open Cup against Tormenta FC.

The 20-year-old made the switch to the United States in 2021, leaving Manchester United after three years at the club. That was his second spell in the Old Trafford academy with time at Manchester City and Valencia sandwiched in between.

Some of his former teammates at Carrington were quick to congratulate Neville on his full debut after he posted on Instagram. Charlie Savage - who netted his first professional goal on loan at Forest Green Rovers last week was among them - as well as Owen Dodgson, now of Burnley. Uncle Gary Neville also showed his pride at the achievement of his nephew, who will now be hoping that it is the first of many as he looks to forge a career at the top level.
