Gary Neville declares Manchester United defeat to Liverpool an 'all-time low'

Gary Neville was left bemused by Manchester United's performance in a sobering 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

United were made huge underdogs going into the Tuesday night clash at Anfield. And Ralf Rangnick's efforts to nullify the Premier League title-contenders frontline proved to be in vain as the United defence was unlocked just six minutes into the game.

Throughout the course of the contest, the Merseyside club found the net a further three times in a gutless display from United. They had a brief spell of resilience after half-time, with Marcus Rashford forcing Alisson Becker into action on two occasions but as momentum began to swing, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane combined to put the game beyond reach. And, for Neville the worrying signs are very clear.

He said: "It was a sobering evening, we expected it, I think every Manchester United fan expected it, not one Manchester United fan came here with any hope whatsoever. But you still try to build yourself up in that little half an hour pre-kick-off 'could something happen?'

"But nothing. That team's got nothing. It is predictable, there [are] some decent players and there is some talent.

"I have no idea, I can't explain how it's gone from slightly promising last season finishing second, I know they lost in the Europa League final which was a bad one, to the point where we are today which is an all time low in my 42 years of watching Manchester United.
