Gary Neville and Brighton 'toast' humbling Manchester United defeat

Gary Neville and Brighton toasted each other over Manchester United's humbling defeat on Saturday night.

Moises Caicedo, once a United midfield target, started the rout in the first half before Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard compounded a miserable evening on the coast for Ralf Rangnick and his side. It was another chapter in a dismal Premier League season that has seen a number of unwanted records topple for the Reds.

Mathematically, United's minuscule hopes of Champions League qualification were ended and the defeat was their fifth in a row away from home. It also resulted in Rangnick's sixth league loss as interim manager.

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker summed up the display before full-time. He tweeted: "Good heavens! @OfficialBHAFC are playing some fabulous football.

"By contrast this might be @ManUtd’s worst performance of the season…and that’s quite an achievement."

For United legend Neville, who has been outspoken in his criticism of the squad and hierarchy this season, he couldn't muster a reaction and posted a solitary full-stop. Brighton's social media team were among those who noticed and replied with a red wine emoji, in reference to Neville's regular selfies of him taking a sip in celebration.
