'Gary Neville and Roy Keane went into the office for me' - Man Utd icons' chat with Sir Alex Ferguson over academy star's contract

Hundreds if not thousands of players passed through the halls of Carrington during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Some went on to become household names bringing untold success to Manchester United through the decades. Others found their triumphs away from Old Trafford.

Current Wrexham first team coach David Jones is one of those who fell into the latter camp. Jones won promotion to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley while he was also part of the famous Wigan Athletic side who beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup in 2013.

Although his four appearances for United's senior team pale in comparison with what was to come, Jones still looks back on his time at the club with great pride and fondness. A big part of this is thanks to the connections he made with the key figures at the club during his three year stint in Manchester.

Speaking to MEN Sport, Jones recalled: "The thing with Sir Alex is that he always seemed to be ever-present. Even when you were playing for the U12s/U13s, you used to see him come watch training and have a chat with the younger players.

"There was always that connection so we always felt valued.As a young lad we had U12s Christmas parties and he'd show up.

"That connection he had with all the players at the club just made it feel like you were part of something and that it meant something that you were there.

"When I signed my schoolboy contract you spent the day at Old Trafford, go to a game, meet the manager in his office, get a photo while you are signing and things like that. That was when it really sunk in just how much of a good opportunity you've got to be at such a great club."
