Gary Neville agrees with Jurgen Klopp comment on why Man United didn't appoint Antonio Conte

Gary Neville still believes Antonio Conte 'wasn't the right fit' for Manchester United.

United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in October and Conte was heavily linked with the job following that dismissal. United eventually opted against appointing Conte with some at the club having reservations over his style of play and confrontational approach.

It's also understood Cristiano Ronaldo vetoed Conte, which was fed back to the board. The Italian, who won the Scudetto with Inter Milan last season, was appointed at Tottenham instead after the London club sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.

United beat Tottenham 3-2 in March at Old Trafford but Conte's side are now ahead in the Premier League table. United are four points behind Tottenham and Spurs also have two games in hand to play, which suggests they're now superior.

United's decision to pass on the opportunity to appoint Conte was controversial and Tottenham's improvement has added weight to the argument that it was a mistake, however, Neville has claimed he still thinks it was the correct decision.

Neville's comments come one day after Tottenham drew 1-1 with Liverpool at Anfield using a pragmatic approach. Jurgen Klopp was unhappy with Tottenham's pragmatic tactics and Neville believes that's why he wasn't the 'right fit' for United in October.

"I respect Conte and his football enormously but this Klopp interview gives the clear reason why he wasn’t the right fit for United," Neville wrote on social media.

Conte's long-term future at Tottenham remains uncertain with the club looking set to fail to qualify for the Champions League.
