Gary McSheffrey reveals transfer interest in Birmingham City starlet

Birmingham City old boy Gary McSheffrey wants to return to his former club to sign one of their development squad players, Kyle Hurst. The 20-year-old has been involved in Doncaster Rovers’ three pre-season friendlies so far and has impressed McSheffrey who during his playing career was, like Hurst, a winger.

He impressed in the 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town last weekend and the Doncaster Free Press claim Hurst is available either for a loan or a permanent transfer. McSheffrey, who has another ex-Blues great Ian Bennett on his coaching staff, has suggested he has looked into making a move.

"It’s just whether the figures work and what we can do,” McSheffrey said. “He’s done himself no harm because I think with the team we have and started with (against Huddersfield) we have not really got a ball-carrier. I thought he did really well when he came on.”

Hurst is yet to feature for the first team having joined Blues from MK Dons. He has two years left on his current contract, one season plus an option. Last season Hurst made 15 appearances for Blues in their maiden Premier League 2 campaign and scored three times.

He ended last term with Alvechurch Town on a youth loan. Doncaster, who were relegated from League One last season, also have former Blues midfielder Adam Clayton on their books. They have also taken Hurst’s Under-23s team-mate Josh Andrews on loan until January. Blues triggered the option in Andrews’ contract earlier this year.
