Gary Lineker responds as Jadon Sancho seals Man Utd first vs Southampton

Jadon Sancho's first Premier League goal at Old Trafford had been a long time coming, but he finally ticked it off the list against Southampton.

The former Borussia Dortmund man didn't enjoy the fastest of starts at Old Trafford, waiting until November to score his first goal of any kind after his big-money summer move.

Sancho impressed in front of goal in his three full Bundesliga seasons, earning him England recognition and prompting United to spend £73m to bring in a man with 50 goals in all competitions in Dortmund colours and countless assists on top of that tally.

And, after the 21-year-old rounded off an impressive Man Utd counter to put Ralf Rangnick's side ahead at Old Trafford, Gary Lineker was among those to sing the youngster's praises.

"Good to see @Sanchooo10 finally finding his feet that were so mesmerising at @BlackYellow," Lineker tweeted.

Sancho had scored just once in the Premier League before opening his Old Trafford account in the competition, putting United ahead away to Chelsea in a game which finished all square.

He was also on target in a Champions League group stage victory over Villarreal, and was the goalscorer for Rangnick's side as others squandered chances in the FA Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough.

United didn't keep their lead for long after Sancho's goal, with Che Adams bringing Southampton level early in the second half as the two sides exchanged chances.

Sancho's goalscoring contribution, tucking home a low ball across the face of goal from Marcus Rashford, came after Rangnick's recent comments about his apparent struggles to adapt.
