Gary Lineker delivers six-word response after Leicester City defeat to Everton

It was a disappointing afternoon for Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday as they failed to bounce back from European disappointment against Everton.

City returned to Premier League action looking to get back to winning ways after failing to win their previous six game in all competitions. That run has now extended to seven matches with a 2-1 defeat against the Toffees.

Vitaliy Mykolenko’s volley opened the scoring for the visitors in just the sixth minute of the match, but Patson Daka drew City level five minutes later. Everton however retook to lead on the half and hour mark when Mason Holgate scored from the away side’s only corner of the game.

It was a lead that Everton wouldn’t give up again as they picked up three points that could be vital in their fight against relegation. It means that Frank Lampard’s team climb above both Leeds United and Burnley in the race for survival in the Premier League.

The full-time whistle led to some sections of the home crowd showing their frustration at the result and performance. But after the game, City’s own Gary Lineker sent a simple message to another former club in Everton.

“You’re welcome @Everton . You’re very welcome,” he wrote on Twitter. Lineker joined Everton from Leicester in 1985, playing for the Toffees for one season before joining Barcelona.

Both teams are back in action this week as City aim to bounce back from the disappointment and Everton aim to build momentum. Both sides take on sides who have already had relegation confirmed, City hosting Norwich City, while Everton travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford.
