Gareth Southgate starts next project after Manchester United links and England exit

Gareth Southgate has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford since leaving his role as England manager last year, but now the next step of his career has been confirmed.

The 54-year-old, who was hotly tipped to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United before Ruben Amorim's appointment, has announced his very own book. Dear England: Lessons on Leadership will publish later this year.

It focuses on "the defining moments that shaped his leadership style, principles that defined his decisions, and the resilience that enabled him to perform under the most intense public scrutiny", says publishers Century.

After a 20-year career playing for Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, and a brief spell in club management, Southgate made the switch to the England U21s in 2013. He replaced ex-Man City star Stuart Pearce.

But Sam Allardyce's resignation as the senior team boss in 2016 saw him thrusted to the limelight. He enjoyed plenty of success, however, as well as giving a number of United and Manchester City stars their international debuts; including Phil Foden and Luke Shaw.

In the years preceding his departure from the role last July, Southgate led the Three Lions to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, the final of Euro 2020 and 2024, as well as a third-place finish in the 2019 UEFA Nations League. All of these experiences and more shaping his new book release.
