Gareth Southgate says he would be “more than happy” if his daughter brought Bukayo Saka home.

Arsenal starlet Saka, 20, has shone for club and country while he has never been affected by the abuse on social media following his miss in the penalty shoot-out in last summer’s Euros final. Three Lions forward Saka was voted Arsenal’s Player of the Year, has nailed down a regular place for his country but has also been a big personality on and off the pitch.

England boss Southgate said the way he reacted and put last summer behind him was outstanding but he says he always believed he would handle it because he is such a popular and grounded member of the squad.

Southgate said: “I don't know if it's a surprise, because of how he is. He's got brilliant support and a great family. His value have been brilliant with him and here, he's felt the love of the players and staff immediately.

“That will have helped, in the immediate aftermath for him. He's a fantastic talent. He's one that's possibly less appreciated because his profile isn't quite the same as some of our other attacking players.
