Gareth Southgate gives Sir Jim Ratcliffe green light to two Manchester United transfers

Manchester United are yet to decide on the future of Erik ten Hag and while the elongated review process is bordering on unacceptable, the transfer rumour mill continues to be in full swing.

Two players who are thought to be high on United's radar ahead of the summer transfer window opening are Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi and Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite. MEN Sport understands the Reds wish to add to their central defence before the new season begins having lost Raphael Varane.

In Branthwaite's case, the Manchester Evening News believes he is a player of interest but Everton would request as much as £80m to allow him to depart the club. Meanwhile, Guehi has been linked with United since January having established himself as a leader in the Eagles' dressing room.

Despite featuring heavily in the Premier League, some questions have arisen about whether either man would be good enough to make the positive impact needed in the United squad. Both players are at the beginning of their careers and to this point have featured for mid-table clubs.

However, England head coach Gareth Southgate has shown why the Reds should have no qualms about splashing the cash on either player. Guehi and Branthwaite have both been called up to the Three Lions' provisional team for the European Championships which start a week on Sunday for England against Serbia.
