Garcia eyes fairytale SA Women's Open title: 'It'll be a dream come true'

South African golfer Nicole Garcia says it'll be a dream come true to win this week's SA Women's Open but does not want to put too much pressure on herself.

Garcia has had a decent start to 2022 so far, with consistent performances on the Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour (LET).

The 31-year-old has not missed a single cut and record top 20 finishes in all her events thus far, including tied for tenth at this month's Saudi Ladies International.

It's a massive week in women's golf as the co-sanctioned LET SA Women's Open Championship tees off from Wednesday to Saturday at Steenberg Golf Club.

Garcia is one of 132 golfers at this week's Investec SA Women's Open with players vying for €300 000 (R4.8 million) - making it the biggest purse for women's golf in southern Africa.

This week, playing in her home Open and with Investec as the title sponsor, means more for Garcia than most.

"It's been a big week for myself and the Investec girls since it's our primary sponsor and we want to make them proud. It's still an event like any other where we still have to play golf and try our best. You just got to keep level-headed and take one shot at a time," Garcia told Sport24.

"Obviously, it'll be a fairytale to win this week but at the end of the day, golf is golf. I don't want to get too ahead of myself. If I play well enough, then it'll be a dream come true.

"But hopefully, I can keep my form up and if not, I just want to make sure I enjoy the event. We'll see what happens, but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself."

At last week's Joburg Ladies Open, Garcia finished tied for third at Modderfontein Golf Club and is looking to build on that confidence in Cape Town.

Garcia has yet to taste victory since 2020 but is happy
