Galway's David Burke suffers season-ending cruciate injury
Galway's 2017 All-Ireland winning captain David Burke has suffered a cruciate ligament injury that will rule him out of action for the rest of the season.
Galway’s all-time championship appearance holder came on as a substitute against Clare last weekend and suffered the injury in training during the week.
The 33-year-old, who made his debut for the Tribesmen in 2010, confirmed in January that he would be committing to another year after fears he might step away like his midfield partner and teaching colleague Johnny Coen did just before Christmas.
Burke is a four-time All-Star winner and has helped his club to six county medals in a decorated career.
He was named player of the match in Galway's 2017 All-Ireland final win over Waterford as Galway bridged a 29-year gap in taking Liam MacCarthy across the Shannon.
