GAA and GPA to discuss continued expenses stand-off this week
The GAA and Gaelic Players Association are set to meet on Thursday in the continued stand-off over expenses.
Last month the GPA said it was "extremely disappointed" that the GAA is seeking to continue cost-savings on player expenses and allowances introduced during the pandemic in 2022.
The meeting is part of a scheduled review between the two organisations, but is also expected to discuss the ongoing players' boycott of televised interviews and other GAA-led competitions and events.
CEO of the GPA Tom Parsons has said that inter-county players are willing to take further action if necessary.
It’s widely expected that the boycott will continue into this weekend as the senior provincial championships commence.
But a note issued to squad representatives earlier today has indicated that GPA members will be permitted to take part in other media opportunities apart from post-match televised interviews.
The players’ association doesn’t want members to be in danger of not fulfilling long- standing sponsorship commitments.
Thursday’s meeting could dictate what happens next in the ongoing impasse as both organisations so far remain entrenched in their respective stances.
