Furious Rangers fan revolt has Rodgers 'sitting comfortably' but Celtic boss told bragging rights won't last forever

Brendan Rodgers has the Glasgow derby breathing room as discontent grows across the city at Rangers.

But Tom Boyd is quick to remind the Celtic boss it could all have been different if Sunday's derby went the other way - and those 'bragging rights' won't last forever unless they make the early advantage count. Rodgers and Beale went toe to toe for the first time at the weekend and it was the Hoops who edged it to open up a four-point gap at the top of the Premiership.

That spelled good news for the Irishman who had come under the microscope after back-to-back games without a goal, exiting the Viaplay Cup against Kilmarnock before a 0-0 stalemate with St Johnstone. A derby win means the vibe is rosey at Celtic heading into the international break but the same can't be said at Ibrox as Beale is facing a fan revolt after a dismal start to the season.

Rangers have already lost twice in the league and their Champions League drubbing against PSV means they will have to settle for Europa League football this season. But while it's Beale feeling the heat, former Parkhead skipper Boyd believes it could so easily have gone the other way. And he reckons his old team need to make it count by putting their foot to the floor when the season resumes in two weeks' time.

He said: “It’s big for Celtic, but it’s only big if you win your next game. Beating Rangers gives you the bragging rights and everybody wants to win that because there’s not another game for a couple of weeks.
