Funeral of Jack de Bromhead to take place in Waterford

The funeral of Jack de Bromhead will take place later today following his death in a pony racing accident in Co Kerry at the weekend.

The 13-year-old, whose father is Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National-winning trainer Henry de Bromhead, died following a fall from a pony while riding at the Glenbeigh Festival on Saturday.

His funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Butlerstown in Co Waterford at 12 noon, followed by a private cremation.

In a statement, Jack's family said he was "not only the perfect, funny, loving son but also an incredible, loving brother to our beautiful daughters, his twin sister Mia and his little sister, Georgia".

The young jockey was taking part in what is known as the flapper races on Rossbeigh beach, a popular two-day event held every year at the scenic Co Kerry location.

The racing event was cancelled following the accident.

The de Bromhead family run their training stables at Knockeen in Co Waterford, where the current stable jockey is Rachael Blackmore.

Henry de Bromhead took over the stables from his father Harry and has been a very successful trainer and was a Grand National winner in 2021, and the winner of two Cheltenham Gold cups at the festivals there in 2021 and 2022.

Jack is survived by his parents Heather and Henry, sisters Mia and Georgia, grandparents, and extended family.
