Fulham man emerges as subject of European deadline day interest

Fulham defender Denis Odoi is attracting interest from Club Brugge, a report from Belgian outlet HLN has claimed.

Odoi joined Fulham from Lokeren in his native Belgium back in the the summer of 2016, and has since become a regular feature for the club.

The now 33-year-old has made a total of 177 appearances in all competitions for the Cottagers, scoring seven goals and twice helping the club win promotion from the Championship.

Now however, it seems the right-back is once again attracting attention from back in his home country.

According to this latest update, Club Brugge, who currently sit second in the Belgian top-flight, are in talks with Fulham over a move for Odoi, before the January window closes later today.

As things stand, Odoi’s contract with Fulham is set to expire at the end of this season, meaning this could be the Cottagers last chance to receive some sort of fee for the full-back.

The Verdict

You do feel that agreeing to a deal for Odoi to leave now could be something of a risk for Fulham.

Admittedly, a sale could be tempting now, given the defender’s contract situation means this is their last chance to receive some useful funds that could be reinvested in the club.

But with Kenny Tete out injured, and having loaned Cyrus Christie to Swansea earlier in the window, allowing Odoi to leave could leave them short on the right-hand side of defence.

That may not be a chance Fulham want to take at this stage in a promotion battle, and given the 33-year-old is a popular figure at Craven Cottage, there are unlikely to be many complaining if this deal does now go through.
