'Frustrating' Manchester United performance sums up Ruben Amorim's £72m problem
Rasmus Hojlund's 'frustrating' performance in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Fulham summed up the major problem Ruben Amorim must solve in front of goal.
That was the verdict of Match of the Day pundits Thomas Hitzlsperger and Shay Given, who believe Hojlund has to contribute more to the team if he is struggling for goals.
The Danish international forward has now gone 10 games in all competitions without finding the back of the net and has scored just two goals in the Premier League this season. He failed to find the back of the net at Craven Cottage on Sunday but it was his all-around performance that came in for criticism.
"When you have a striker like Hojlund who isn't scoring goals in this moment, you at least have to contribute in holding the ball up," Hitzlsperger told Match of the Day 2. "We have seen too many examples of him getting the ball and by this stage he must realise if he doesn't keep a hold of the ball it results in a chance for the opposition.
"It is really frustrating to see him showing for the ball but never really being able to get a hold of it."
Given agreed, adding: "It is frustrating when you are away from home in the Premier League. Your main striker has to be stronger. He has to be more dominant. You want so much more off your centre-forward. He had a real poor day at the office.
"He is a [work in progress] but he seems a million miles off it at the moment. His work ethic and running around the pitch, at least bring something to the party. Rashford is probably at home thinking he can do better but he has to bring that to training and show to this new manager he deserves a place in the team."
United will almost certainly be in the market for a more natural goalscorer in the summer transfer
