"Frustrating" - Kyle Walker breaks silence on England injury ahead of Man City return

Kyle Walker hopes his injury is 'nothing too serious', and is hopeful of a quick return after leaving England's friendly with Brazil early.

Manchester City captain Walker went down in the first half, appearing to hold his hamstring, and despite trying to play on he was soon replaced by Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa. After the game England boss Gareth Southgate said he did not know the extent of Walker's problem but noted he was a player who doesn't often get injured.

Now, Walker has taken to Instagram to offer an update on his condition, expressing his pride at captaining the Three Lions for only the second time in Harry Kane's absence.

"Frustrating to come off injured in last night's game especially when captaining the side. A truly great honour." he wrote, accompanied by a series of pictures from the game with the armband - as well as hobbling off and touching the hamstring.

On his potential return to action, Walker added: "Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and I’m back ASAP."

Southgate had said: "We don't know yet [on Walker's injury]. He is feeling something but he is not a player that is injured very often so he is not quite certain what it is so we will have to assess it over the next couple of days." BBC 5Live Sport reported that Walker will be assessed over the next 36 hours after feeling some “tightness”.

England face Belgium on Tuesday after which Walker will be scheduled to return to City for preparations ahead of their Premier League title showdown with Arsenal on Easter Sunday. Walker joins Kevin De Bruyne,
