From Aston Martin to Alpine: Otmar Szafnauer appointed as new team principal

Former Aston Martin chief Otmar Szafnauer has been announced as the new team principal of Alpine.

Szafnauer, whose departure from Aston Martin was confirmed in January, will be charged with propelling the Enstone team up the grid.

In a statement, Alpine, who finished fifth in last season's constructors' championship, described Szafnauer as "one of the most talented and respected Formula One managers".

"I am thrilled to join BWT Alpine F1 Team and ready to get to work with everyone to achieve our challenge of fighting for the championship within the next 100 races," said Szafnauer.

"My attention is focused on preparing for the start of the season in Bahrain.

"As one of the three-car manufacturers involved in Formula One, Alpine is fully armed to achieve its ambition; I can't wait to start the journey."

Double world champion Fernando Alonso and Frenchman Esteban Ocon will team up for a second season together at Alpine.

Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi added: "Otmar will bring his unique experience in motorsports and his uncompromising desire to win."
