Fresh Matty Cash claims made as Diego Simeone stance on Aston Villa transfer revealed

Matty Cash continues to be linked with a transfer away from Aston Villa amid reports Atletico Madrid are interested in signing him this summer.

Last month, The Sun claimed that Cash is wanted by Atletico manager Diego Simeone to replace Kieran Tripper after the England international left the Spanish capital for Newcastle last month.

The report added that Atletico are willing to splash a fee in the region of £30-£40million during the summer transfer window.

And in an update on the right-back's future, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that the Spanish club remain 'seriously interested' in bringing him to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Romano said on Twitter: "Atletico Madrid are seriously interested in signing Matty Cash for next season. Direct contacts started in January and he's still in Atléti list as potential new right back for Diego Simeone, highly appreciated.

"#Atleti Cash will be in Atletico list again for sure."

However, has been informed by those close to Cash that he remains settled and deeply committed to the new era under head coach Steven Gerrard.

Cash joined Villa in the summer of 2020 for a £14million transfer fee rising to a reported £16million from Nottingham Forest and instantly became a fan favourite at Villa Park, cementing his place as the starting right-back from the start of last season.

He has made 49 Premier League appearances for Villa since joining Villa nearly one-and-a-half years ago.

The claims come after Villa signed Calum Chambers, who can operate at both right-back and centre-back, from Arsenal.

Chambers became the fourth signing Villa made in the January window after Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and goalkeeper Robin Olsen.
