Fresh claims made in Blackburn Rovers transfer link with Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards

Blackburn Rovers are ‘not interested’ in signing Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards, according to reports.

It was claimed on Monday that Richards was on the radar of Queens Park Rangers with Championship rivals Rovers also named as an interested party. However, Lancashire Live understands that reports of Blackburn’s interest in Richards are ‘wide of the mark’.

Their report claims Rovers ‘were never in the race’ to sign Richards who looks set to depart Albion on loan this summer. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan to Championship side Birmingham City.

QPR’s approach is for a permanent transfer but if an agreement can not be found it is reported the R’s could settle for a loan move with an option to buy. Richards currently has two years left on his contract with Albion.

The former Fulham and Manchester City youth has played five times for the Seagulls since rising through the club’s academy. Over the last two years, Richards has been picking up game time elsewhere starting with a temporary spell with Doncaster Rovers for the 2020/21 season.

Should the midfielder leave this summer, Richards will join a long list of Albion players to leave on loan this summer, including first-team striker Aaron Connolly who will spend the season with Italian Serie B side Venezia.

Albion have already sold the likes of Yves Bissouma this summer, who joined Tottenham Hotspur last month. Leo Ostigard also completed his much anticipated move to Napoli for an undisclosed fee on Monday (July 18).
