Frenkie de Jong 'not convinced' by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and more transfer rumours

Manchester United transfer target and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong was reportedly not convinced by Reds boss Erik ten Hag in the summer.

According to Cadena SER, De Jong always planned to stay with the Catalan giants, adding that the chance to work with Ten Hag once again didn't appear to give the Dutchman much motivation to change his mind. It is also claimed that his Barcelona teammates wanted him to remain with the club as they chanted in unison at a dinner in May.

De Jong reportedly views himself as the long-term replacement for midfielder Sergio Busquets, who is out of contract next year. His family are also said to be very settled in Spain.

The 25-year-old was desperate to play in the Champions League this season, and it is claimed that the thought of joining United never 'seduced' him.

Elsewhere, Calciomercato are reporting that Juventus could look to sign Reds goalkeeper David de Gea next summer as the Italian club look to upgrade on current shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny.

De Gea, who is out of contract next year, could leave Old Trafford at the end of his deal if United opt against extending his contract. It remains to be seen if Ten Hag will look to replace the 31-year-old in the summer transfer window, but De Gea currently remains the team's first-choice goalkeeper.
