Aston Villa 'ask about' Liverpool Premier League winner who 'wants to leave' PSG

Aston Villa have reportedly been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain and 'asked about' acquiring midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

As has already been reported, a £21 million fee would be required to return the Netherlands international to the Premier League ahead of next season.

Despite signing a three-year contract just last summer, Wijnaldum apparently 'wants to leave' the French capital after failing to nail down a regular role in Mauricio Pochettino's midfield.

The 31-year-old has started just half of their Ligue 1 fixtures this season and was an unused substitute in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Real Madrid last month.

These most recent reports come from the Spanish daily SPORT, who have identified Atletico Madrid as the 'best positioned, for now' to sign Wijnaldum from PSG this summer.

Before this season the midfielder was a regular for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, making more than 50 appearances last season across all competitions as the Reds reached the Champions League quarter-finals and finished third in the Premier League.

That summer Wijnaldum played every minute as Holland captain at the European Championship, scoring three goals during the group stage, before they were eliminated by the Czech Republic in the first knockout round.

Earlier this season Wijnaldum vented his frustration at a lack of game-time with PSG.

"I have played a lot in recent years, I was always fit and also did very well," the player told Dutch media.

"This is something different and that takes getting used to. I was really looking forward to the new step and then this happens. It is very difficult."
