Frankie Kent set for Hearts transfer as Peterborough accept improved Jambos bid

Hearts have struck a deal with Peterborough to make Frankie Kent their third summer signing. The defender has been given permission by his club to speak to Tynecastle chiefs after the Jambos returned to the table with an improved offer.

And all going well the 27-year-old will be confirmed as a Hearts player this week - hot on the heels of Australian midfielder Calem Nieuwenhof and veteran goalkeeper Michael McGovern joining the Jambos. Record Sport revealed on Friday how the League One club had rejected Hearts’ first offer for Kent with Posh director of football Barry Fry admitting Kent had told them he wanted a move to Gorgie.

But a new bid has been accepted over the weekend and the player is on his way north to thrash out personal terms after being identified by Frankie McAvoy and Steven Naismith as a top target. Kent sat out Peterborough’s weekend friendly with Colchester United due to a niggling injury. But he’s expected to be fit for the start of the Premiership season in two weeks’ time.

Fry told Record Sport last week: “Frankie has been very successful for us. We bought him for half a million pounds and we’d normally make a profit but we won’t make one on this.

“He has given us three magnificent years of service and will reluctantly let him go if we can sort the payment structure. Frankie helped us win promotion, he helped us to get in the play-offs last year and had a year in the Championship.

“He’s a great lad. A big centre half, quick, strong in the air, a great talker.

“Frankie has spoken to Jorge Grant and Michael Smith - he used to be big buds with both of them. They’ve told him Hearts are a great club.

“I thought he’d have gone to the English Championship. He’s good enough. But Hearts is a massive club
