Frank Lampard is looking to revamp Everton’s midfield but just what kind of player do they need in the engine room to revive their fortunes?

Everton are understood to have held talks with Harry Winks but with Chelsea now considering a swoop for Richarlison, there has been a clamour from many fans for Lampard to utilise his Stamford Bridge connections to try and land Conor Gallagher in a potential part-exchange deal if the Londoners make a move for the Brazilian.

Although both central midfielders, Winks, 26, and Gallagher, 22, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, offer the Blues rather different attributes and an examination of their contributions last term on Comparisonator brings this into stark focus. When it comes to offensive parameters, Gallagher sweeps the board with Winks failing to outperform him in any area.

Gallagher netted eight Premier League goals for the Eagles in 2021/22 – including a brace against Rafael Benitez’s Everton in December. Those two strikes when facing the Blues are as many goals as Winks has scored in his entire 128-game Premier League career, with just solitary strikes in 2016/17 and 2018/19.

While both men averaged 0.09 assists per 90 minutes last season (Gallagher over 34 matches and Winks over 19), Gallagher was ahead for shot assists (0.85 to 0.54); shots (1.44 to 0.36); shots on target (0.8 to 0.18); dribbles (3.42 to 2.08); successful dribbles (2.21 to 1.26); attacking actions (6.34 to 3.97); successful attacking actions (3.33 to 1.81); expected goals (0.2 to 0.02) and expected assists (0.21 to 0.17).
