Frank Lampard: Chelsea legend's interview after scoring vs club for Man City

If you were to say that Frank Lampard is Chelsea’s greatest ever player, few football fans would disagree with you.

The current Everton manager enjoyed a memorable 13-year stint at the club after signing from West Ham United in 2001.

Lampard won trophies galore with the Blues, including three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.

And despite playing as a midfielder, Lampard is Chelsea‘s record scorer with 210 goals in all competitions.

The sight of the Englishman rippling the back of the net in west London became a common sight for fans of Premier League football and for so long, it was unthinkable that he’d do the same against his beloved Chelsea.

But it happened in 2014 after Lampard joined Manchester City on a short-term deal.

‘Super Frank’ came off the bench in a Premier League fixture at the Etihad Stadium and bagged a crucial equaliser for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

It was a trademark goal as well. The Chelsea legend arrived late in the box and fired the ball past Thibaut Courtois first-time from James Milner’s cushioned pass.

Unsurprisingly, Lampard didn’t celebrate. In fact, he looked rather annoyed that his goalscoring talent had inflicted pain on the team that made him a global superstar.

Lampard also cut a rather emotionless figure in his post-match interview alongside Milner. He stayed professional, but it was obvious that the goal brought him little to no joy.

“I’d be unprofessional if I didn’t come on and do my job,” Lampard said.

“So I tried to get in the box, it’s a great ball from Millie. It’s a tough one for me, I had 13 amazing years with Chelsea fans, so I’m mixed with it.

“I’m obviously pleased with the team I play for got a draw.”
