Four new signings, but no Lascelles - Newcastle United fans pick their strongest XI after January window

Who would Eddie Howe pick if he had a full Newcastle United squad to choose from? It's rare that any manager has no injuries of suspensions to contend with, but that's the decision we asked Magpies fans to take this week.

Now the transfer window has closed and all the deals have been done - for now - Howe knows the players he has at his disposal for the rest of the season.

Some will have to miss out of the 25-man Premier League squad, with five new arrivals and only Freddie Woodman and Jeff Hendrick leaving to make space.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have already made their United debuts, of course, but where do Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Bruno Guimaraes fit into the side, and who misses out?

We asked you to pick your ideal Magpies XI from a full squad to see what the general consensus was on the best starting XI, with the likes of currently-injured Callum Wilson and Isaac Hayden back in contention.

The results may surprise some, as room was found for four of the new signings, with only Chris Wood missing out as Wilson was picked by the majority.

The New Zealand international may yet play alongside Wilson, of course, but with with Howe preferring the 4-3-3 formation so far, it will be interesting to see how he makes that happen.

Trippier and Targett make the full-back positions, unsurprisingly, with Burn alongside Fabian Schar at the heart of the fans' defence - meaning skipper Jamaal Lascelles misses out along with Paul Dummett.

In midfield, Guimaraes joins fellow Brazilian Joelinton, along with Jonjo Shelvey. With Ryan Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin on the flanks, United would still have the luxury of players such as Joe Willock, Miguel Allmiron, Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff in reserve.
