Former Manchester United forward claims Joelinton is making his Newcastle United midfield role 'look easy'

Former Manchester United forward Dion Dublin has admitted that Joelinton is making his new midfield role 'look easy' after another impressive performance.

The 24-year-old was excellent as Newcastle United came from behind to draw 1-1 at West Ham United, with Joe Willock netting after Craig Dawson opened the scoring.

After a difficult start to his Magpies career, Eddie Howe has seemingly managed to get the best out of the Brazilian, moving him into a more deeper position, rather than as a central striker.

Joelinton has started the last 12 Premier League matches and is becoming one of Newcastle's most important players with his energy and pressing in the midfield.

Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey have also been superb and they have formed a dynamic trio that is working well - although Bruno Guimaraes will be hoping to get his chance in the side sooner rather than later.

Of all players to produce more than 10 passes in the attacking third at the London Stadium, only Joelinton had a 100% pass success rate, proving his quality in possession.

His upturn in form has surprised many, including Dublin, who believes that he's 'influencing' matches now.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Dublin said: "In his early days at Newcastle Joelinton looked lost.

"He was up there on his own and told to play as the number nine. He didn’t fit the way they were trying to play.

"He’s got a bit more time on the ball in central midfield. He can pick a pass and he’s big and strong.

"He’s making that role look easy and he’s influencing games now."

Joelinton will be looking to build on his recent form when Newcastle take on Brentford in what is a vital game towards the bottom of the Premier League.
