Four arrests at pro-Palestine rally and march in Manchester

Police made four arrests - three men and a woman - as thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators staged a rally and march through central Manchester, it's been revealed.

Crowds gathered at Whitworth Park at 12pm before making their way down Oxford Road and continuing towards Manchester Cathedral and Manchester Victoria railway station.

In an update on Sunday, Greater Manchester Police said a 36-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, with a 51-year-old man also held on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and possession of cannabis.

A 49-year-old man, meanwhile, was arrested on suspicion of discharging a flare in a public place and a 37-year-old man was held on suspicion of discharging a firework. There have been no reports of any injuries.

As reported in the M.E.N., it was the sixth weekend in a row pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched and chanted their way through the city centre.

On route, protestors targeted a Starbucks and Pret A Manger shop, shouting 'shame on you' and 'boycott Pret', while customers inside looked on in bewilderment. The protestors claimed that the two chains are supporting Israel by opening outlets in the country.

The 'main target', however, was the Fisher German offices in Centurion House on Deansgate - due to the property surveying company's links to Elbit Systems, which protesters claim produces specialist electrical equipment for military use by Israel.
