Foundation honours Nigeria’s para-powerlifting champions

Nigeria’s para-powerlifting champions, who brought glory to the nation on the international stage have been commended for their dedication and commitment. The team, also received about N3 million in reward as the Bet9ja Foundation, while celebrating the athletes, pledged commitment to its core ambition of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event took place in Lagos at the weekend. According to the foundation, it was necessary to celebrate and reward the athletes. With a lineup of Nigeria’s finest Paralympians, including Silver Medalist Bose Omotayo, Gold Medalist Folashade Oluwafomiayo, Nigeria’s first-ever female Paralympic Gold Medalist Coach Ijeoma Iherobiem, and Thomas Kure at the event, Vice President of the foundation, Adaobi Cuomo said it is important to promote sports development in the country by rewarding exceptional athletes for their outstanding achievements.

“These athletes have not only broken world records but have shown that true strength comes from the heart and mind. Every lift on the global stage represents years of hard work and perseverance, overcoming obstacles that would seem insurmountable to many. You embody the Nigerian spirit, rising to every challenge,” she said.

Cuomo noted that the ceremony reflects the foundation’s commitment to its key focus areas, where sports development is a central priority.

She said the efforts of the foundation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16, which focuses on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies and building accountable institutions.Cuomo said the organisation would remain devoted to expanding access to higher education for financially disadvantaged yet talented individuals.
