Forward Kweku Lucan makes exit from Isthmian Premier club Folkestone Invicta after scoring two goals in five matches
Forward Kweku Lucan has left Folkestone - weeks after joining the club!
Lucan initially signed for Isthmian Premier Invicta last month and made an instant impact on his debut in a 1-1 draw at Cray Wanderers.
He claimed their equalising goal in the 73rd minute off the substitutes’ bench after young defender Joel-Michael Odeniran had turned midfielder Jack Jebb’s corner towards goal at Flamingo Park.
Lucan, who ended last season at Dover as they won National League South promotion via the play-offs, then started in a 2-0 triumph at Canvey Island and scored again as Jay Saunders’ side edged to a 2-1 ‘home’ victory against St Albans at Margate.
But the ex-Slough man returned to Invicta’s substitutes’ bench for their 2-1 derby success at Chatham and last weekend’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Isthmian South East Sevenoaks through goals by striker Ade Yusuff, Odeniran and forward Donell Thomas at Ashford United’s Homelands Stadium.
In a statement on Monday, Folkestone said: “We can confirm that forward Kweku Lucan has departed Folkestone Invicta.
“We’d like to thank Kweku for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
On social media, Lucan wrote: “Unfortunately, my time at @FIFC has come to an end.
“Out of my hands but enjoyed every moment of it.
“Wishing everyone at the club the best of luck.”
The news of Lucan’s surprise exit came on the same day Folkestone manager Saunders saw his charges get drawn at home to old club Maidstone in the FA Cup second qualifying round.
Saunders, who left the Stones in 2018 after seven years, led them to the National League on the back of three promotions in four seasons.
Invicta are captained by ex-Maidstone defender Kevin Lokko while vastly-experienced midfielder Dean Rance is also a
