Formula E: Sebastien Buemi joins Envision for series 9

Sébastien Buemi has joined Envision Racing for series 9 of Formula E, with him signing a multi-year contract with the team.

Buemi is a very experienced driver with some impressive achievements on his CV, having raced in 55 Formula 1 Grands Prix, won 13 E-Prix races in Formula E, and taken four victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours, when competing for the exceptional Toyota Gazoo Racing team.

Indeed, he has combined his WEC and Formula E duties in recent years and notched a fair few trophies along the way, with 29 podium finishes in FE also being accrued, whilst he won the title in the 2015/16 campaign.

Envision will be hoping he can bring that sort of success to the team this coming year, then, as the sport embarks on a new era with the Gen3 cars for season 9.

He’ll drive alongside Nick Cassidy for the British-based team, and had this to say to reflect on the move:

“It’s an interesting time to be part of Formula E and I can’t wait to start driving for Envision Racing next season. I have always had a huge amount of respect for the team, and I believe they’ve done a great job in maximising results over the years.

“The new Gen3 era is hugely important for the sport and presents a new challenge, with a faster, lighter and more powerful car. My objective is to fight at the front, so I’m looking forward to start testing and preparing myself ahead of the first race in Mexico City.”

The team’s Managing Director Sylvain Filippi said meanwhile: “As a team, we’re always aiming to be as  competitive as possible.
