Two identical scenarios four days apart typify this Manchester United side. At Fulham on Saturday, Diogo Dalot intervened with a terrific goal-saving intervention with Harry Wilson loitering.

In Copenhagen, Dalot dozed and Lukas Lerager prodded in at the far post to make it 3-3. Rasmus Hojlund went ballistic at the deflated Dalot.

You had to feel for Hojlund. Every time he has scored for United, they have lost. He put them ahead twice against Galatasaray only for there to be a goal glut at the other end and it happened in both halves in Copenhagen.

"It is all about winning and I cannot stand here with my arms above my head (celebrating) after we just lost a match," Hojlund sighed in the mixed zone.

Dalot does not lack character and defeat palpably hurts him. He was stricken and statuesque after the infamous 4-0 thrashings at Brighton and Brentford three months apart. His family, who travelled around the United States during Dalot's first pre-season tour even though he was recovering from injury, were in the away end on Wednesday evening.
