Former Rangers winger Jordan Jones 'linked' with Scottish Premiership transfer from Wigan

Jordan Jones has been linked with a return to Scotland with one of his former clubs for the new campaign.

The ex- Rangers winger left the Ibrox club for a move south of the border with Wigan Athletic - but spent part of the last campaign back north with St Mirren. Things haven't quite worked out for the Northern Ireland international at the newly promoted English Championship club and he could be set for a summer exit. The Sun's Alan Nixon reports that he could be on his way back to Kilmarnock.

It states that the Latics want to loan the attacker to Derek McInnes' newly promoted Scottish Premiership side - and will pay part of his wages to get the deal done.

Last term during his stint in Paisley, Jones fired one goal and notched one assist in 13 appearances.

Back in 2019, Rangers snapped up the winger from Kilmarnock on a free after 11 goals in 119 appearances at Rugby Park. But things didn't go quite to plan at Ibrox and he left on a permanent deal for Wigan last summer - putting pen to paper for three years.

The 27-year-old made a telling impact at Kilmarnock to earn his move to Ibrox and he will be hoping to recapture that once again in familiar surroundings, should a move go through.

McInnes has already been adding to his squad this summer with the return of fans' favourite and last season's No1 Zach Hemming on a season-long loan deal.

Rangers youngster Lewis Mayo has joined the Premiership new boys on a similar agreement while former Celtic midfielder Kerr McInroy has signed a two-year deal.
