Former official claims referee made second big blunder in Manchester United vs Wolves

Former referee Keith Hackett believes Andre Onana's penalty scare wasn't the only incident missed by Simon Hooper during Manchester United against Wolves.

United were handed a reprieve by the match officials and VAR on Monday when they decided Onana hadn't fouled Sasa Kalajdzic inside the 18-yard box. However, PGMOL manager Jon Moss and PGMOL chief Howard Webb have both since admitted it was the wrong decision.

In the view of Hackett, that wasn't the only incident which went unpunished. Both Raphael Varane and Marcus Rashford entered the crowd when celebrating United's opener which under the laws of the game, should have resulted in a yellow card.

This particular rule is under the microscope after Rotherham United's Fred Onyedinma was sent off against Blackburn Rovers. He was pushed by teammates into the home fans after scoring and was booked before receiving a second yellow minutes later for gesturing an imaginary card.

With that fresh in the mind of South Yorkshire-based Hackett, he tweeted: "Please tell me PGMOL under the charter why no yellow card was applied. Consistent application of law is so important."

Hackett, who used to work for the PGMOL and has officiated at the European Championships before, also claimed that VAR's lack of intervention in the penalty decision was a "catastrophic error".
