Former Manchester United striker backs Ruben Amorim after Ruud van Nistelrooy exit decision

Former striker Teddy Sheringham has backed Ruben Amorim's decision to completely reset Manchester United's coaching team amid the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy.

United confirmed the exit of the Dutchman on Monday afternoon, a little over 24 hours after his time in interim charge came to an end. Van Nistelrooy was put in caretaker charge after the exit of Erik ten Hag on October 28 and oversaw four matches. Van Nistelrooy, who won three and drew one of his four games at the helm, was joined in leaving Old Trafford by Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel.

United are yet to announce the landscape of Amorim's coaching team, but he travelled to England on Monday with Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Paulo Barreira, Emanuel Ferro and Jorge Vital, each of whom worked with Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.

Considering the plan is for him to continue working with individuals he knows inside out, Sheringham does not believe Amorim can be criticised for deciding against retaining Van Nistelrooy.

"I am very unsurprised that Amorim has decided to let Ruud go," said Sheringham, speaking to Best Offshore Sportsbooks. "Amorim will want all his staff and, as a previous manager, I know I didn't manage for very long, but from experience, he will want his own people around him.
