Former Manchester United favourite has given Erik ten Hag a summer transfer decision to make

If you were asked to name Manchester United's strongest starting line-up with every member of the squad fit and available, it is unlikely that you would hesitate too much.

As the season has developed, Erik ten Hag's preferred and strongest line-up has become clearer. David de Gea has cemented his place in goal, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez make up his preferred centre-back pairing, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen start in midfield and Marcus Rashford locks out the left wing.

However, the area that would probably create the most debate and conversation right now would be the right-back berth. After Diogo Dalot made the position his own for the first three months of the season, he has recently faced strong competition from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Dalot started each of United's opening 20 matches of the campaign in all competitions this season, a run that was only halted when he picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League campaign in the Reds' penultimate league match ahead of the pause for the World Cup. With Wan-Bissaka's United career at that juncture seemingly over, Ten Hag called on Tyrell Malacia to deputise at right-back for the 2-1 win over Fulham in November.

In the build-up to the trip to the capital, much of the conversation centred around how much United would miss the Portuguese international. He had established himself as an undroppable figure and one of United's most important players. The signs were clear from the outset of the pre-season tour in Bangkok that Dalot was going to be key in the way Ten Hag wanted the Reds to play.
