Bruno Fernandes has given Erik ten Hag a decision to make at Manchester United

Midfield has been a problem for Manchester United for the last few weeks, but now it looks like it is about to finally be solved.

Casemiro will be back from his four-match suspension and free to start in Europe anyway when they face Sevilla next Thursday, while Christian Eriksen should also be in contention to start after his brief cameo on Saturday.

With two hugely influential players coming back into the squad, it is going to be fascinating to see what Erik ten Hag does with his midfield when he has all of his big hitters available again next week.

United's best football this season has come with a midfield trio of them and Bruno Fernandes, though they have dominated the last two matches with a makeshift midfield without them.

It seems certain that at least one of Casemiro or Eriksen will start against Sevilla, such is their immense individual talent, but it leaves Ten Hag with a dilemma to solve with regard to Fernandes.

The 28-year-old impressed midweek in a deeper midfield role and pulled the strings again against Everton from the base of the United side.

Fernandes has so often shone in an attacking midfield position that gives him licence to take risks, but he has relished the responsibility of a deeper role that requires more composure and calmness in his game.

He played almost as a quarterback against Everton, orchestrating the United plays from deep with his line-breaking passes and picking his moments to push forward and support the attack whenever it was required.

Most importantly, he also backed up his typical attacking ambitions by doing the defensive basics too, and he particularly stood out in the first-half when he raced back with a perfectly timed
