Former Man City star chose Derby County despite interest from 'a lot of clubs'

Derby County's tenth summer signing Kwaku Oduroh has revealed that 'a lot of clubs' were interested in him after being released by Manchester City at the end of last season before arriving in the East Midlands.

The 19-year-old initially arrived at the club as a trialist, featuring against Bradford City in the Rams ' first pre-season friendly of the summer, and has now put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract at Pride Park. Oduroh spent 14 years with the reigning Premier League champions, as the player himself said in confirming his exit earlier this week.

After captaining City 's under-18s to the Premier League national title in 2021, the right-back leaves having advanced to the under-23s last season and also featuring in Pep Guardiola 's training sessions regularly across the campaign as well as also being added to the club's senior squads on occasion. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that Derby were not the only ones interested.

"I’m over the moon and delighted to be here," Oduroh told RamsTV. "With my situation at the end of the season with Manchester City, there were a lot of clubs interested.

"Derby was one of those and I really liked the sound of the project and I really wanted to be part of it. I bought into it and came down for a couple of days and I was delighted with what I saw - and it’s all come about from there."

Oduroh continued: "I want to play in the first team as much as possible and get my name out there so people know what I am about. I want to develop under the coaches and with the players to feel comfortable around this environment. As a right back, I am going to give 100% all the time. I am honest and tough on the pitch."
