Former Luton Town team-mates set to battle for Viaplay Cup quarter-final berth

Livingston midfielder Andrew Shinnie and Ayr United defender Frankie Musonda were team-mates at Luton Town not too long ago. Now, after watching the Hatters' dramatic rise to the Premier League, the good pals are set to face-off for a place in the Viaplay Cup quarter-final.

Shinnie (34) was a key part of the side as they won back-to-back promotions from League Two, while Zambian international Frankie never made the grade - appearing in just three league fixtures before a chat with his ex team-mate convinced him to move to Scotland, initially with Raith Rovers before signing for the Honest Men last summer.

Friendship will be put aside for the afternoon, though, as the veteran hopes he has the bragging rights come full-time, commenting: "I have a good friend Frankie who is at Ayr and I used to play with Jamie Murphy. I was at Luton with Frankie when he was a young lad and he’s done well since coming up to Scotland.

"I spoke to him about coming here and told him it could open a lot of doors for him if he did well. He’s a full international now with Zambia and is doing really well at Ayr.

"I loved it at Luton and I got on really well with Frankie there. It’s an unbelievable story what’s happening there, I watched them on Match of the Day last weekend.

“Who would have thought they would be signing guys like Ross Barkley when I was there? It’s a great club and they deserve it. I ‘ve still got a few mates there and I speak to the captain Tom Lockyer.

“I was quite pally with him and I messaged him the other day saying, ‘captain of a Premier League team’. It’s an inspiring story. At Livi we say that we’re underdogs but sometimes it can work well for you.”
