Former Liverpool FC starlet scores wonder goal in Manchester United youth win

Manchester United moved up to fifth place in the U18 Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland on Thursday afternoon. Ethan Ennis netted the only goal of the game with a first-half wonder strike to give Travis Binnion's side another precious three points on the road.

United took the lead five minutes before half-time when former Liverpool forward Ennis picked the loose ball up on the edge of the box and cut inside onto his right foot before he unleashed a superb curled effort into the far corner of the goal.

It was the fifth goal Ennis has scored in his last three league appearances, following a brace in the 5-5 draw with former side Liverpool earlier in the month and the two goals he netted in a 4-1 win over Leeds last weekend.

The 17-year-old's strike was worthy of winning any match and it turned out to be the case following a scrappy second half in which both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

Victory for United lifted them up to fifth in the table on 25 points, just one point behind Derby, although the young Reds have five games in hand. They sit five points off third, with two games in hand to play on Blackburn and 11 points off second-placed Liverpool, who have played four games more.

Man City currently lead the way with 42 points from their 19 matches so far in the U18 Premier League.
